Interview

Please introduce yourself.

I am a third generation Chinese American. I started studying Japanese in junior high school, and after graduating from high school, I came to Japan to do a one-month homestay in Tokyo. I then studied abroad at International Christian University, majoring in language and intercultural communication. I also earned a master's degree and a doctorate in English teaching methods from Temple University in the United States. I have taught at English conversation schools, foreign language colleges, and Temple University.

Please tell us about your research.

I am researching curriculum design and English teaching methods on a daily basis, and I am researching and practicing how students can acquire English in an enjoyable and effective way.

What kind of contributions to society do you expect as your research progresses?

We hope that students will acquire intermediate or advanced level English proficiency and be able to play an active role globally in their respective fields of expertise.

What can you learn in the seminar?

I am not in charge of seminars.

Please say a few words to all the students.

We live in a global age. People who can only speak their native language can only play an active role in a limited world. People who can speak multiple languages can greatly expand their field of activity by coming into contact with various worlds, cultures, people, and ideas. Language is a skill (= an ability that can be acquired through training), so you need to persevere and continue to work hard until you have acquired a certain level of ability. Once you have acquired language skills, a wonderful world, experiences, and discoveries await you. Effort, persistence, perseverance, never give up.
