Interview
Please introduce yourself.
I am proud to have been born in Hokkaido and to have studied at Soka University. My five years of study abroad in Germany not only allowed me to learn more about my field, but also allowed me to think deeply about the state of society.
Please tell us about your research.
This book focuses on historical awareness in the age of globalization, with a particular focus on comparing Japan and Germany. Whenever neighboring countries criticize Japan's historical awareness, Germany is cited as an example, but if you understand Germany's path after the war, you will see that it was a winding road. The book argues that the historical awareness held by Japan's current leaders is not ultimately fixed, but that it is entirely possible for future generations to change it.
What kind of contributions to society do you expect as your research progresses?
I believe that for students of the generation that will lead society in the future, it is essential that they have an interest in history and an understanding of history based on correct knowledge in order to live in a global society where human movement and exchange is accelerating.
What can you learn in the seminar?
You will gain accurate knowledge about Japan's modern war history, and learn how Germany has dealt with a past that it would rather not remember.
Please say a few words to all the students.
Although this is a seminar for studying history, we aim to learn history in a way that will enable us to live in the future.
