research content

I spent approximately 18 years as a graduate student, faculty member and researcher at the National University of Malaya, where I conducted research on the quantitative economic history of British Malaya (present-day Malaysia and Singapore). From 1998 to 1999, I was a member of the historical GDP estimation project for pre-war Malaysia, led by Raja Nazrin, Crown Prince of Perak and Assistant Chancellor of the University of Malaya, where I was mainly involved in collecting materials from the British colonial period and creating a management and estimation database. In my personal research, I have also conducted analysis of colonial administration and finance in British Malaya, historical GDP estimation for Singapore under British rule, and empirical analysis of long-term economic growth. I am currently conducting empirical analysis of economic growth and business fluctuations in Singapore under British rule in the 19th century, as well as research on the development of social capital and government fiscal behavior in the port city of Rangoon during the British colonial period.

Research and Education Policy

Using the Blue Book, which records various statistics on socio-economic activities in former British colonies, and other materials, I would like to work with researchers around the world to estimate the historical GDP of Asia and Africa and conduct empirical analysis using this data. As for my educational policy, I would like to learn from different perspectives how to study the dynamically changing Asian region.

Message

I believe that graduate school is a valuable opportunity to experience the joy of "seeking truth and creating value." I hope that you will take on many challenges and make them your own assets.
