research content

My research has focused on studying the area of the English verb system, especially the problems of English tense, aspect, and modality, investigating proper and effective methods for teaching the area and troublesome grammar problems for Japanese students of English, and studying some changes in English grammar and usage in present-day British and American English.

Research and Education Policy

My main research interest has been in the corpus-based investigation of changes in present-day English grammar and usage in British English and American English. Another chief interest has been in the area of pedagogical English grammar, studying core grammar points for ESL/EFL students and finding out concrete ideas for teaching them and effective teaching techniques so that students may have a good communication in English according to language situations.

Teaching is by a seminar or on a one-to-one basis. Particular topics are studied and discussed in a small group or between a student and a teacher. Giving some presentations of what they have learned and researched is an essential part of classes.
