research content | My research theme is the analysis of labor markets using equilibrium search models. In particular, I have recently been incorporating differences in employment status, such as regular and non-regular, into my models to consider what the ideal legal system should be regarding employment protection for workers and the use of non-regular employment. |
Research and Education Policy | We will continue to conduct analysis based on the model that takes into account the existence of different employment types. As an extension of this, we plan to consider what kind of company-led training would be sufficient for non-regular employees, and how the government should be involved. |
Message | We welcome students who have no difficulty studying economic theory and mathematics, as well as those who have a strong interest in employment and labor issues. |
Interview
Please introduce yourself.
My hometown is Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, which is famous for its heavy snowfall. I teach theoretical subjects, but my favorite subject as a student was world history. Even now, I love reading books about history, and I am interested in the Spring and Autumn Period, Warring States Period, and Three Kingdoms Period in China, and the Meiji Restoration period in Japan. I also love playing futsal with my seminar students.
Please tell us about your research.
Using an economic model that takes into account the existence of people working in both regular and non-regular forms, I am researching how changes in employment protections for workers and the ease with which companies can employ non-regular workers will affect unemployment and wage inequality.
What kind of contributions to society do you expect as your research progresses?
What do you think about the current situation where non-regular employment is increasing? Non-regular employment is characterized by low income and unstable employment, and considering the impact on unemployment rate and corporate performance, it is not easy to answer the question of whether non-regular employment should be reduced. Through the above research, we will be able to discuss under what circumstances it is socially desirable to reduce (increase) non-regular employment.
What can you learn in the seminar?
In this seminar, you will acquire basic knowledge about behavioral economics while learning how it is applied to topics such as long working hours and gender inequality in the workplace. Enjoy learning how economics, which has so far developed its discussions on the premise that "people act rationally," can explain "real human behavior based on one's own emotions and feelings toward others."
Please say a few words to all the students.
Gain as much knowledge as you can while you are a student. Money is lost when you spend it, but knowledge is polished when you use it, and leads to the acquisition of new knowledge. The knowledge you have acquired will be the source of your original ideas, so keep your interests open to a wide range of fields and acquire a wide range of knowledge.
