Special lecture by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus -- "Creativity" will change the world

On Friday, May 30, a special lecture by Mr. Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and World-Renowned Founder of Grameen Bank (Chief Advisor to the Provisional Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh), was held at the University of Bangladesh Central Tower. The lecture was attended by about 170 people, including the Ambassador of Bangladesh and students, faculty and staff of the university.
Mr. Yunus has made significant contributions to poverty reduction and social independence through the practice of microcredit, an unsecured microloan to the poor in Bangladesh. In 1976, he launched the Poverty Eradication Project, and in 1983 he founded Grameen Bank. Its innovative efforts have spread to more than 60 countries around the world, and it is internationally acclaimed as a pioneer of social enterprises.
In his lecture, under the theme of "Creativity cultivated at universities is the source of creating the world," he touched on various issues facing modern society, such as environmental destruction and the concentration of wealth. From the perspective of social business, he said that it is important to pursue the interests of society as a whole, not individual profits, and to create a new world.
Participating students commented, "I received a message that universities are for those who suffer in society through the story of how you took on the challenge of building a new banking system for the poorest people (Faculty of International Liberal Arts 4th year)" and "Like Mr. Yunus, I was determined to continue my studies with the desire to proactively improve society (Faculty of Letters 4th year)" Such voices were received.
When Mr. Yunus first visited the university in July 2014, he agreed with the university's educational philosophy, and concluded an agreement between the Yunus Center and the university to promote mutual exchange in education and research. In conjunction with this special lecture, in recognition of Mr. Yunus's achievements and relationship with the university, he was awarded the "Soka University Honorary Doctorate" and the "Soka Friendship Certificate".
