A book selection corner by our university's students opens at Kumazawa Bookstore Hachioji branch - The corner is themed on the charms of Mount Takao and will be open from September 21st (Sunday)

On the 5th floor of Kumazawa Bookstore Hachioji store, the "Student Book Selection Corner" featuring books featuring Hachioji and Mt. Takao created by our students started on Sunday, September 21st. It is scheduled to be held until the autumn foliage season of Mt. Takao (the end date is undecided).
With the theme of the charm of Mt. Takao, which boasts the world's largest number of climbers per year, more than 30 books selected by our students are lined up in stores. The genres ranged from flora and fauna, food culture, history, mountain beliefs, folk tales, novels, etc., and the students worked not only on the selection of books, but also on the design of pops introducing the contents, posters at the entrance and inside the store, flyers, and bookmarks for prizes.
This fair was held by students of the university's Faculty of Letters course, "Special Lectures on Philosophy and Thought" (in charge: Professor Takao Ito), who worked on regional revitalization by utilizing their knowledge in the humanities as part of service learning. The class incorporated multifaceted learning, including a lecture by Professor Katsuaki Onishi (Religious Studies) of the Graduate School of Mt. Takao Graduate School of Letters on the theme of "Philosophical Approach to the Region".
The student in charge of the project said, "I was able to experience the fun and difficulty of thinking from the customer's point of view, such as which book is the most attractive and what kind of connection to make in the array" (Faculty of Letters 4th year, Ayaka Fujiyoshi), "I realized the charm of learning that everyone creates, and I was able to enjoy the activities from beginning to end. By exchanging opinions with each other, we have been able to select a fulfilling book. Please come and visit us!" (Yasuo Yamaguchi, 3rd year) said.
Mr. Daichi Isomae, a Kumazawa bookstore clerk, said, "From the macro perspective of the relationship with human beings such as tradition and faith about the mountain, to the micro and practical perspective of specific mountain climbing, the entrance is soft and the depth is firm, and it has become a fair that anyone can see."
In addition, the first 50 people who purchase the book will receive a "special bookmark" as a gift for each person.
