Faculty of Business Administration Nomura Seminar held an SDGs awareness event jointly with paper product trading companies and manufacturers

As part of the "Make Sodai Business Cards Environmentally Friendly!" project promoted through industry-academia collaboration, Faculty of Business Administration 's Sachiyo Nomura Seminar held an SDGs awareness event "Re(=Reborn, Recycle): Business Card Cafe" on November 5 (Wednesday) at the SPACe Arena on the 2nd floor of Global Square.

At the beginning, President Yoshihide Akiya said, "Soka University has been holding the SDGs Good Practice Award contest for three years to help students bring their ideas to life. Next, as a student representative speech, Yuto Nakamura (4th year) of Nomura Seminar gave a presentation on the projects so far. Nomura Seminar students took the lead in converting business cards used by faculty and staff on campus to more environmentally friendly materials, and created business cards using "circular cotton paper" made from 100% recycled cotton clothing as part of the raw material. At the same time, from May to July of this year, we collected clothes on campus and participated in an upcycling collaboration project. In this process, activities aimed at contributing to the realization of a recycling-oriented society through resource recycling and waste reduction were introduced by using circular cotton paper, which has a manufacturing process with low environmental impact related to water use and CO2 emissions.

Next, Mr. Toshiaki Hanawa of Shinsei Paper Pulp Shoji Co., Ltd. and Mr. Hiroshi Harada of Yamazakura Co., Ltd., who are working together on this project, took the stage and gave lectures on the significance of using environmentally friendly products, the introduction of circular cotton paper, and the role of business cards in connecting people through "paper". Subsequently, we held an opinion exchange meeting with the participants, and actively exchanged opinions on the potential of paper and environmentally friendly consumption.

Participants commented, "I learned that even students can contribute to solving social issues in collaboration with companies" (Faculty of Business Administration 3) and "I was stimulated by the students' enthusiasm and ability to take action on the SDGs" (SME SDGs Promotion Consultant).
