Akiya The President visits universities in Taiwan to promote educational exchanges
From Monday, February 23 to Thursday, February 26, President Yoshihide Akiya visited Taiwan. During his stay, he deepened exchanges with local universities and participated in international forums on peace ideas, and developed a wide range of educational exchange activities.
On Tuesday, 24 Day, President Akiya visited National Taiwan University in Taipei and had a meeting with Vice President Ding Shitong. National Taiwan University expressed its gratitude for the exchanges with NTU University so far. They also exchanged opinions on multifaceted exchanges, such as promoting collaboration and joint research for the 100th anniversary of the university's founding in 2028. In the afternoon of the same day, I met with President Chen Qianjin of National University of Kaohsiung. President Chen expressed sympathy for the university's "student-centered" spirit and said that he would like to further promote international exchange as an emerging national university.
On Wednesday, the 25th, I attended the 64th anniversary ceremony of Chinese Culture University. Akiya Prior to the ceremony, the President laid a wreath at the monument to Dr. Zhang Qiyun, the founder of the university. At the commemorative ceremony, President Akiya delivered a congratulatory speech and celebrated the long-standing friendship with about 500 attendees.
After the meeting, I met with President Wang Ziqi and Chairman Chen Tairan of Chinese Culture University to reaffirm the ties between the two universities that have lasted for more than 30 years since the exchange began in 1995. At the same time, we signed a memorandum of cooperation for the establishment of a "dual degree program" that allows students to obtain degrees at two universities. In addition, former President Ayame Hayashi of the university reminisced about the meeting with Professor Daisaku Ikeda, the founder of the university, and the results of his ideological research.
On the last day, Thursday, the 26th, President Akiya attended the 17th International Forum on Daisaku Ikeda Peace Thought held in Chinese Culture University. At the opening ceremony, President Wang Ziqi emphasized the importance of Professor Ikeda's "idea of dialogue" in a chaotic world situation. In the keynote speech, President Hayashi reviewed the 30-year history of friendship between the two universities, and President Hiroshi Tang of St. John's University discussed the need to put peace ideas into practice.
