Mika Suzuki Presidents of the University of the Philippines Visited Universities in the Philippines - Keynote Speeches at the 3rd Ikeda Symposium
From Tuesday, February 24th to Saturday, February 28th, President Mika Suzuki and others visited universities in the Philippines. The purpose of this visit was to strengthen cooperation with exchange schools in University of The East and to attend the 3rd "Ikeda Symposium" (co-sponsored by the university and TUF) held at the Karookan Campus in .
On the first day of their stay, the delegation visited the University of Philippines Diliman School and met with President Angelo Jimenez and President Edgardo Carlo Bistan II. They looked back on the history of exchanges over the years since the signing of the exchange agreement in 1988, and discussed further promoting cooperation in the fields of human resource development and peace education in the future.
On Thursday, the 26th, I met with President of Philippine Normal University Bert Toga, Provost Robert Loreda of De La Salle University, and Assistant Vice President of Ateneo de Manila University Ma Cristina M. Alikpala. In addition to continuing education and training, they discussed the revitalization of exchanges in specialized fields such as economics and science and technology.
On Friday, the 27th, the 3rd Ikeda Symposium was held at the University of The East Karookan Campus, attended by about 400 people, including President Sojimo M. Batad and President Victor R. McComb Jr., as well as local educators and international students from the university. In his keynote speech, President Suzuki expressed his gratitude to the university for its many years of acceptance of students and emphasized the importance of education through dialogue. This was followed by lectures by President Toga of Philippine Normal University, experts from the National University of MINDANAO and the Philippine Arab Cooperation Council on the theme of global citizenship education and the dignity of life. After the Q&A session, a chorus by the student representatives was performed at the end.
