We held the "6.23 Okinawa Memorial Day Peace Prayer Event".
The "June 23 Okinawa Memorial Day Peace Memorial Event" was held on Sunday, June 28, at Global Square Discovery Hall. This event was held under the theme "What You Can Do Now in a Peace Without Correct Answers," and was held jointly by three organizations: the Okinawa Prefectural Association, Okinawa Peace Research Association, and Ichari Bacho Days, as an event wishing for peace and reflecting on what each person can do in a world plagued by constant war.
The event was held in three parts, with each performance conveying their desire for peace through Eisa by Icharibacho Days, a research presentation on the Battle of Okinawa by the Okinawa Peace Research Association, and a play by the Okinawa Prefectural Association. At the final finale, all performers sang "Song of Peace." together.
In conjunction with the event, an exhibition was held by the Okinawa Prefectural Association to convey the history of the Battle of Okinawa.
Hiroshi Yanagawa (3rd year, Faculty of Economics), who was in charge of this event, said, "During the process of creating the event, there were times when I wondered, 'What exactly is peace?' However, through repeated dialogues with colleagues and other organizations, I was able to experience the peace each person envisioned, and I was able to resolve to realize the peace I envision."
Furthermore, coverage of this event has also been published in the Ryukyu Shimpo and Okinawa Times, local daily newspapers in Okinawa Prefecture.
