The Maruta Shinsaku Seminar in the Faculty of Science and Engineering has been selected for the 2026 Student Project Grant from the University Consortium Hachioji.
On Tuesday, July 14th, the "University Consortium Hachioji FY2026 Student Project Grant Selection Ceremony" was held at the Hachioji City Gakuen Toshi Center in Hachioji City, Tokyo, and Professor Shinsaku Maruta's seminar in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at our university was selected in the designated project category.
The University Consortium Hachioji is a collaborative effort between 25 institutions, including universities, junior colleges, and vocational schools, as well as local residents, businesses, and government agencies, to develop various projects aimed at revitalizing the region. This grant aims to support student activities and contribute to regional revitalization by subsidizing a portion of the costs for initiatives planned, managed, and implemented by students in the Hachioji area.
This year, the Maruta Seminar's project titled "Promoting STEAM Education through Collaboration between Local Companies and Universities in Hachioji City (Towards Hachioji as a Model City for STEAM Education)" was selected.
On Monday, July 6th, the Maruta Seminar held a special lecture at Minami-Osawa Junior High School in Hachioji City, Tokyo, as part of its efforts to achieve its project objectives. The lecture aimed to help junior high school students become "Hachioji CFOs (Chief Future Officers)" and be hired by local partner companies. Through this project, the aim is to make Hachioji City a model city for STEAM education.

At the selection ceremony, an exchange meeting was also held where each organization selected for the grant shared details of their projects.
*STEAM education is an educational philosophy that combines creativity education with science and mathematics education, focusing on five areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Liberal Arts, and Mathematics. It is an interdisciplinary learning approach that fosters a cycle of inquiry and creation. The name STEAM education comes from the first letter of each of these areas.
