Tatsuo Watsuji, the great-grandson of philosopher Tetsuro Watsuji, and others visited the "Philosophy and Kant Rare Book Collection Exhibition."

On Saturday, October 3rd, Mr. Ryu Watsuji (representative of the Watsuji Institute for Human Resource Development), the great-grandson of philosopher Tetsuro Watsuji, visited the "Philosophy and Kant Rare Books Collection Exhibition" currently being held at the Central Library.
Tetsuro Watsuji was a leading Japanese philosopher and served as the first president of the Japan Society for Ethics. Ryu Watsuji came to Soka University to attend the 77th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Ethics, which was held there, accompanied by Ryutaro Tamada (Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Life Sciences, Teikyo University of Science), a researcher of Kiyoshi Miki.
At the Central Library, they enthusiastically viewed numerous valuable books, including Buchar's "Aspects of Greek Genius" (published in 1923, with a dedication in Watsuji's own handwriting), translated by Watsuji Tetsuro. Library Director Ito Takao provided explanations about the exhibits.

The "Philosophy and Kant Rare Book Collection Exhibition" is being held from October 1st (Thursday) to October 31st (Saturday). It features 16 rare books from the university's collection, primarily focusing on the works of Kant, a representative figure of modern philosophy.
In particular, you can view three editions of "Toward Perpetual Peace": the first edition from 1795, the expanded and revised edition from 1796, and the first French translation from the same year.
This collection also includes Machiavelli's "Complete Works" (published in 1610), Kierkegaard's "Perspectives on My Writing" (first edition 1859), Bergson's "The Two Sources of Morality and Religion" (first edition 1932), and Alain's "Season of Spirit" (first edition 1937), which includes a dedication.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to view the valuable intellectual heritage held by our university. Please refer to the flyer for details on the exhibited materials.
