The Makiguchi Memorial Educational Foundation held its 2026 Fall Semester Scholarship Award Ceremony for International Students.
The Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation's 2026 Fall Semester International Student Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony was held on Friday, October 16, at our university Global Square. This scholarship supports international students (special courses, undergraduate schools, graduate schools) who face financial difficulties in their studies, and was established with support from the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation.
Following the representative presentation of scholarship certificates, two students shared their aspirations. Maisie Carolyn, a 4th-year student from Indonesia, expressed her gratitude for the scholarship and reflected on her experiences of unlocking her potential through various challenges, declaring, "I will grow into someone who brings value and happiness to those around me."
Thomas Iwai Masdin, a third-year PhD student from the UK (Graduate School of Science and Engineering), introduced challenges in academic and social contribution activities after overcoming his injury. "I am deeply grateful to everyone who supports me, and I will continue to work hard every day with pride as a scholarship recipient."
Yasuyuki Tsuji, Chairman of the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation, introduced that the Makiguchi Memorial Education Fund was established by the founder Professor Daisaku Ikeda to inherit the great life of Mr. Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, the father of Soka Education, and to nurture individuals who contribute to people's happiness and world peace. He expressed hope that the scholarships, filled with the founder's heartfelt support, will be transformed into strength and motivated by their studies.
Finally, President Mika Suzuki expressed gratitude to international students, saying that the presence of a diverse campus contributes to nurturing "global citizens who practice value creation," and encouraged them to "overcome difficulties, devote themselves to scholarship, and expand the circle of friendship and solidarity around the world."
