University-wide comprehensive disaster prevention drill conducted, simulating an earthquake of magnitude 6.

On Friday, October 30, we conducted the "University-wide Comprehensive Disaster Drill," with students and faculty participating on campus.
We conducted initial response and evacuation drills for large-scale earthquakes, and distributed emergency food to students and faculty members.

At 11:50 a.m., an emergency earthquake alert drill report was issued, and the disaster drill began with an on-site announcement in Japanese and English stating, "An earthquake of lower 6 intensity has occurred mainly in Hachioji City." Under evacuation guidance from faculty and staff, students checked evacuation routes via stairs and moved to four designated evacuation areas on campus. After confirming evacuation was completed, a system was used to confirm safety and confirm actions in the event of a disaster.
Additionally, we used wheelchairs installed in Global Square and conducted evacuation drills simulating injured people and wheelchair users.

In the commentary, Director Tsukamoto of the Narahara Branch of the Hachioji Fire Department said, "Many participants calmly evacuated in a short time, making it an excellent drill. In particular, the evacuation guidance was conducted with consideration for international students, and the organized and well-controlled response was impressive. We hope that the drills will continue to be conducted to raise disaster awareness and ensure safety."
Next, Chairman Yoshihide Akiya said, "In this drill, the time to complete evacuation was 12 minutes. We were able to shorten the last drill by 3 minutes. In recent years, natural disasters have occurred all over the country, and you never know when disasters will strike. Therefore, in addition to regularly learning through training to take appropriate actions in emergencies, it is also important to develop an awareness of supporting those around you."

One of the participating students said, "Experiencing the evacuation drill and learning how to evacuate on a vast campus gave me a sense of security. Recently, I've been seeing a lot of news about extreme weather and disasters, so I want to be aware of disasters on a daily basis."

Additionally, a desk-based exercise by the Crisis Response Headquarters was conducted online on the day.
