<58th All Japan University Ekiden> Soka University Ekiden Team takes 3rd place! ~Secures a seeded position for the 5th consecutive tournament

On November 1st (Sunday), the 58th Chichibunomiya Cup All Japan Intercollegiate Ekiden Championship (Nagoya/Atsuta Shrine - Mie/Ise Shrine, 8 sections, 106.8 km) was held, with all 27 universities (including selected teams) competing for the title of Japan's best intercollegiate ekiden team. Soka University's Ekiden team, participating for the fifth consecutive year as a seeded team, broke their previous team record by 2 minutes and 28 seconds, finishing in 3rd place with a time of 5 hours, 9 minutes, and 28 seconds. They also secured a seeded position for the 59th tournament, their fifth consecutive year participating.

○Section 4, Riki Koike: When I received the sash in 11th place, I was a little anxious, but I believed that if I focused on my own running, I could contribute to the team, and I ran to the finish. I'm disappointed that I couldn't win the section prize, but I was able to make adjustments since Izumo, which has given me confidence. I will build on this momentum and aim for the section prize and a new section record in the final Hakone Ekiden.

○Section 5, Junsei Murakami: There was pressure, but I was able to relax and enjoy running. My role was to aim for a seeded position and pass the sash, and I was able to run at the pace I set, so I feel I did well. Each section of the Hakone Ekiden is long distance, but I will use this result as confidence and take on the challenge with an aggressive mindset.

○Section 6, Rintaro Enoki: I received the sash in a position where we could see the seeded position, and it was an easy race where I could chase the runners ahead of me. I got into a good rhythm from the start and was able to run at a good pace in the first half, but I still have room for improvement in my finishing speed in the second half. My goal for Hakone is to be in contention for the section prize, and I will work hard in my training going forward.

○Section 8, Shohei Yamaguchi: When I received the sash, we were about 30 seconds behind the leader, aiming for the team's highest possible ranking (top 3). Being able to chase after strong schools allowed me to translate the team's momentum directly into my own running. Moving up to 3rd place in the middle of the race and being able to hold on from there was a great achievement. If I can reproduce the feeling of "attacking and persevering" that I grasped in this ekiden, I think I will get good results at Hakone as well.
