In April 2026, the name of the department will be changed from "Department of Law" to "Department of Law and Political Science" and "Department of Education" to "Psychology and Department of Education"

Soka University plans to change the name of the Faculty of Law" Department of Law" to "Department of Law and Political Science" and Faculty of Education" Department of Education" to "Psychology and Department of Education" from April 2026 in order to more clearly show the educational content and characteristics of the department. We will proceed with the prescribed procedures in the future.

Although the names of the departments will change, the degrees awarded will remain the same: the Department of Law and Politics will offer a Bachelor of Law, and Department of Education will offer a Bachelor of Education. In addition, the three policies of each department, namely, the Diploma Policy, Curriculum Policy, and Admission Policy, will also remain unchanged.

For students enrolled prior to the 2025 academic year, the school regulations at the time of enrollment will remain "Faculty of Law Department of Law" and "Faculty of Education Department of Education".

Background to the name change to the "Faculty Faculty of Law Department of Law and Politics"

The Department of Department of Law Faculty of Law has as its two pillars "jurisprudence" and "politics" in its education and research. Through legal education based on humanism, we have cultivated talented individuals who can contribute to the realization of human happiness and social peace by equipping students with logical thinking and explanation skills and by working to solve real-world problems.

Since its establishment in 1971, the Department has offered "Legal Subjects" and "Politics and Policy Subjects" in its curriculum, and has produced talented individuals for various sectors of society, including not only the legal profession, but also industry, national and local government officials, and diplomats. In light of this, we will be changing the name to "Department of Law and Politics (tentative title)" so that the name will evoke the characteristics of the learning.

Background to the name change to the "Faculty of Education Department of Education"

Through the academic exploration and practice of human education, Faculty of Education Department of Education Education has cultivated talented individuals who can solve problems in a variety of situations with advanced knowledge and skills from both the perspectives of "pedagogy" and "psychology."

Since its establishment in 1976, the department has offered "Department of Education" and "psychology subjects" in its curriculum. In addition to establishing a course for training certified psychologists, Education Major will be renamed "Department of Education (tentative name)" so that the name will evoke the characteristics of the learning.
