SATREPS-EARTH Project Public Symposium Held

On Saturday, September 27th, we held an open symposium on the "SATREPS-EARTH Project" (Representative: Prof. Shinjiro Sato, Faculty of Science and Engineering) at the Global Square of our university.

Our university has been promoting the "SATREPS-EARTH Project" in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia as part of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program run by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

At the symposium, Professor Sato of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, who is the project leader, gave an overview of past activities and future prospects regarding the effective use of water hyacinth, which overgrows in lakes in Africa and Ethiopia, followed by a speech by Associate Professor Solomon Addis of the Mika Suzuki President and Bahir Dar University of the University of California, Berkeley. The person in charge of each research theme gave presentations on the specific progress related to environmental conservation and sustainable development, as well as the results obtained in Ethiopia. Finally, President Garuda Ostrich from Injibara University gave a speech and introduced the significance of the project and the prospects for further research.

After the symposium, a poster session was held by graduate students involved in the project.
