A paper co-authored by Professor Isao Takagi of the Faculty of Economics of TUFS titled "Impact of remittances on financial asset accumulation and business investment in Nepal*" has been published in the international academic journal Discover Sustainability".

Co-authors Kalki Shyam Kumar and Gimia Dipesh Kumar both studied at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School Graduate School of Economics and obtained their PhDs in Economics. Currently, Kalki is a researcher at the Hashimoto Foundation Societas Research Institute in Okayama Prefecture, and Gimia is a Assistant Lecturer professor at the Faculty of Sociology, National Tribhuvan University Kathmandu of Nepal.

Regarding the publication of the paper, first author Kalki Shyam Kumar said:
"Remittances from overseas migrant workers have a significant impact on the economies of developing countries like Nepal, contributing to poverty reduction, increased household income, and strengthening economic resilience. Remittances are an important source of foreign currency and financial support, often surpassing foreign aid and investment. This study investigated the extent to which remittances affect financial asset accumulation, consumption, and investment. Using quasi-experimental methods with World Bank household survey data, we found that remittances have a significant impact on financial asset accumulation, food and non-food consumption, and durable goods ownership, but no effect on education and health expenditures or business investment. This indicates challenges to the sustainable development of the education and health sectors. Therefore, policymakers should consider strategies to channel remittances into more productive areas."
