Professor Hiroshi Kanno of Graduate School of Letters has published "Modern Language Translation: Hokke Phrases" (Part II)

Professor Kanno of the Graduate School of Letters of our university published "Modern Language Translation: Hokke Phrases" (Part II) from Institute of Oriental Philosophy on Monday, March 16th.

All ten volumes of the Lotus Sutra are compiled by his disciple Zhang'an Daishi Encho (561-632) as a book of the lectures of the Lotus Sutra by Tendai Daishi Zhiyi (538-597), and are counted as one of the three major parts of Tendai along with the Lotus Mystery and Maha Zhi Guan, and have been widely read for a long time and widely since ancient times as a commentary on the commentary on the Lotus Sutra. This book is the first modern translation in Japan with detailed annotations, and the total page is 864 pages.

Professor Kanno, who has studied Chinese Tendai teachings for many years, said, "I am very pleased that I have been able to complete a modern translation of 'Lotus Phrases' with this publication, following 'The Meaning of the Lotus Flower' (Part I) (Part II). I am currently working on a modern translation of 'Maha Zhi Kan', so I would like to somehow complete a personal modern translation of the three major parts of Tendai."
