Faculty Overview
Message from the Dean
Law × Politics × Value Creation
Faculty of Law will soar even higher as it becomes Department of Law and Politics from the 2026 academic year. We have created an environment that cultivates the ability to grasp the essence of problems from both the legal and political science perspectives and develop the thinking skills to derive solutions. After learning basic knowledge from both the law and political science perspectives, students will choose a field or topic that interests them from their second year and proceed to a specialized course. We have a rich curriculum that allows students to build their future while gaining a variety of experiences in order to achieve their dreams.
Mastering law and politics to concretely design the future
Students study basic subjects in the first year, and after careful consideration, choose a course from six diverse specialized fields from the second year onwards to deepen their learning.Specifically, students aim to "acquire legal knowledge to live a safe and secure life as a citizen, and legal and business knowledge to become an excellent businessperson", "develop the methods and thinking ability to solve policy issues and public issues in society through exercises and practice", "acquire high-level specialized knowledge and language skills on peace issues as a global leader who will play an active and contributing role in the international community", "acquire knowledge, thinking ability and problem-solving ability to realize a society in which society as a whole develops while protecting the environment, as well as the law and policy for global issues, and a society that values spiritual richness", "acquire specialized legal knowledge systematically to be involved in resolving legal disputes that arise in various aspects of social life", and "deepen their learning from two perspectives: Asian studies and public management to develop their inquisitiveness, imagination and practical ability to solve problems in Asia".
If you have a wide range of interests, we have a double course system, which allows you to choose a sub-course (minor) in addition to your main course (major), allowing you to combine a variety of studies.
Extensive programs for global careers
Faculty of Law In order to nurture human resources who can play an active role in the world, PHRS offers special programs related to English language study and study abroad.
If you participate in the PHRS program, which teaches "Peace, Human Rights, and the Environment" in All English and work diligently from your first year, you will surely acquire English skills and make great progress. Depending on students' needs, they can choose different overseas experiences: short-term, 6 months, or 1 year. The exchange program with the University of Oslo, Norway, offers a wide selection of fascinating subjects, including political science, economics, psychology, social anthropology, social and human geography, technology, innovation and culture, and environmental studies. In the exchange program with the University of Warwick in the UK, students can also choose to study highly specialized subjects such as politics, international relations, public policy, and economics, as well as creative subjects related to the SDGs. There are no tuition fees to either university. In addition, the Global Symbiosis and Peace Creation Program (DEAPP) will nurture individuals who can express themselves in English and present solutions to issues in English, based on the basic concept of "relationship with the Earth (Earth) (geo-human correlation)," which is a fundamental concept of Tsunesaburo Makiguchi "Geography of Life," the creator of Soka Education. In addition, the "Asian Public Management Study Tour," a short-term overseas training program, will take students to rapidly developing Asian countries and regions such as South Korea and the Philippines.
We also offer a wide range of programs for future careers such as law and public service.
GLP, which was certified as a "Legal Profession Course" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2020, aims to meet the needs of legal professionals such as lawyers, judges, and prosecutors. As a small-group educational program, it specializes in preparing students for admission to Soka University Law School (course for those already studying law), and aims to nurture lawyers who have the knowledge and abilities necessary for lawyers to be active on the international stage, as well as a keen sense of human rights.
For students who wish to become civil servants, we have a special program for civil servants. The program aims to develop careers that will allow students to contribute to people, society, and the world by solving various international and social issues and policy challenges at the forefront of public policy, and to "create the future." The program supports a wide range of civil servant careers, including administrative positions such as diplomats and international organization staff, national civil servants (ministry and agency) and local civil servants (prefectural offices, government ordinance-designated cities, and city halls), specialist positions such as national tax specialists, court clerks, and labor standards inspectors, and public safety positions such as firefighters and police officers.
Gain experience through hands-on research and practice programs
In Faculty of Law, students can deepen their real-life learning through workshops, fieldwork, internships, and other activities, such as inviting frontline experts active in society to propose social issues and their solutions. There is also a problem-solving class that is an industry-academia collaboration, where students learn through group work and student-led activities, with the theme of "Find a company that will change the world!". The class content is rich, from ESG and SDGs, the future of the world, to tips on how to read the Nikkei newspaper. In addition to acquiring the latest knowledge and corporate analysis skills, students also aim to acquire interpersonal skills. In the fieldwork, the relationship between humans and the "Earth/Land" is considered through the practice of regenerating the land on campus and in Satoyama. While caring for the soil, students will improve drainage and breathability, and experience that soil is not just a material, but is made up of a web of relationships between living things.
In this way, Faculty of Law allows students to freely combine and study multiple specialized fields of interest, from law, politics, and business to international relations, the environment, public policy, and Asian and world peace, in order to develop the thinking skills to grasp the essence of problems and derive solutions from both the legal and political/political science perspectives.
You are sure to find a diverse world of learning that suits you.
A learning environment that opens up infinite possibilities and allows you to make your dreams come true is waiting for you.
