Social media refers to media through which users themselves disseminate and create information, such as SNS (social networking services) such as "Facebook," "X (formerly Twitter)," "LINE," and "Instagram," as well as "blogs."
In recent years, there have been cases where people have become perpetrators of abuse due to lack of caution when using social media, even if they had no malicious intent. Specifically, this can lead to problems such as "the leakage of personal information, defamation, invasion of privacy, and breach of confidentiality. Please understand that thoughtless comments on social media can ruin your life, and be sensible when posting content.
Please read the following items carefully before using social media.

Characteristics

The source is identified

Even if you are anonymous, the source can be identified from previous and subsequent comments, past posts, and IP addresses. (※1) Please refrain from making irresponsible comments, even if you are anonymous.

*1 A hotel employee posted on X (formerly Twitter) that a celebrity had visited the hotel. A few hours later, the employee and the celebrity's real names and photos were published online.

Spreads instantly

Any information you post will instantly spread around the world. It doesn't matter where you are or who is seeing it. Please be mindful to post information responsibly so as not to hurt anyone with careless remarks or get yourself into trouble (※2).

*2 When a university student uploaded a video of himself dancing with the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome in the background to Nico Nico Douga, he was inundated with criticism and slander, and the blog went into "flame war."
 

Even if you delete it, it remains

Once you have posted something, even if you delete it yourself, it cannot be completely erased. This is because there is a possibility that it may be recorded on someone's computer somewhere. Think carefully about whether you want the content to remain forever before posting it.

Notes

Do not post other people's real names, photos, or details of their actions without permission.

You should never post other people's real names or photos without their permission. Furthermore, posting things like "this person was doing this" is also a violation of privacy. In the past, a celebrity posted information about a private visit to a store on Twitter, which became a social issue. Please consider the other person's position and thoughts when posting.

*3 The GPS function records the approximate location of where the photo was taken. There have been cases where people have been stalked after their homes were identified from photos.
 

Do not post libelous or slanderous content.

Badmouthing, lies, and slander can lead to human rights violations. Statements that criticize the character or personality of others or statements about their appearance are not just badmouthing on social media. They can be considered defamation or insults. The same applies to careless statements made without much thought (※4). Never post badmouthing others.
Furthermore, careless remarks can lead to criticism and slander against you (※5), and sometimes even to harming your family.

*4 While working part-time in the food service industry, he posted a photo of himself jokingly climbing into the refrigerator. As a result, the restaurant was forced to close, and the person who posted the photo was sued for damages for causing significant damage.
*5 A firefighter posted photos of a damaged house and the firefighters themselves on Facebook while fighting a fire. He also posted a false comment saying, "It's the fire department's job to put out the fire, and the firefighters just watch." He was later reprimanded. The person in question said that he thought the photos would only be seen by friends, and that he had posted them without much thought.

Be careful about public visibility

Set the visibility range. Even if your post is "private," it can be made public if it is copied or retweeted, so be careful not to include photos or personal information. Also, on Facebook, you should be careful not to tag "friends" in photos without thinking, and be careful when removing people from your "friends" list (※6).

Double check that the information is correct

The information posted on the site is not necessarily correct. Be careful not to get involved in an incident or become an unintentional perpetrator due to incorrect information. It is important to be prepared not to be fooled by rumors or lies.
