On November 18th (local time), Professor Hiroko Tomioka of the Faculty of Education gave a lecture hosted by the Soka Education Research Institute at University of Guelph-Humber in Canada, a research institute for soka education regarding global citizenship.

The lecture was held online and was attended by 171 people from the United States, Brazil, India, etc. The Soka Education Research Group was established in 2017, and the institute was established in 2019. The institute has been promoting research and holding lectures with the aim of fostering global citizens using Soka Education.

After the greeting by the institute’s director Dr. Paul Sherman, Professor Hiroko Tomioka gave a lecture on the theme of "An Overview of Soka Education from the Pedagogy of Professor Makiguchi." She argued that the basis of Professor Makiguchi's educational philosophy is the theory of value that emphasizes beauty, profit, and goodness. When commenting on the lecture, Prof. Tomioka stated, "Although this lecture was online, the participants were in 11 countries, and so I felt that interest in Professor Makiguchi's Soka education is spreading around the world. I am very grateful for having had this opportunity to give a lecture at University of Guelph-Humber, where we have educational exchanges with the Faculty of Education."
