OIST students participate in "OIST Science Challenge 2025"

Yuko Hosaka, a third-year student in the Faculty of Science Faculty of Science and Engineering, participated in the OIST Science Challenge 2025. The OIST Science Challenge 2025 is a nationwide workshop where students can experience the Ph.D. program at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), and this year marked its 10th anniversary. 26 students from all over Japan lived together for about a week and took lectures in English.
This year's workshop was held under the theme "Into the Unknown: What is your 0 to 1 idea?", and Hosaka gave a presentation in English on his idea for developing an ocean exploration robot that combines oceanography and intelligent robotics, focusing on the decline of marine resources due to climate change and overfishing. Looking back on his participation in the workshop, he said, "Through discussions and experimental activities with professors and students from OIST, I was able to gain a new perspective on my research. Participants have continued to interact with each other even after the program, so it was a very meaningful experience."
