Special performance by the China Northern Kunqu Opera Company held at Soka University

On Wednesday, May 7th, a special performance by the China Northern Kunqu Opera Company was held at Soka University in the multipurpose hall of the Student Hall, and was enjoyed by students, faculty and staff. This performance was held with the aim of promoting friendship between Japan and China as part of a cultural exchange project in conjunction with the Osaka Expo and other Japanese performances, and two pieces were presented.
The North China Kunqu Opera Company is a professional theater company of Kunqu Opera, one of China's traditional theatrical cultures, and was founded on June 22, 1957 under the guidance of Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai.
Premier Zhou Enlai personally signed the document and appointed the famous Kunlun Opera actor Han Shichang as its first director. Since its establishment, it has become a venerable organization with many party and state leaders such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Peng Zhen, Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Li Ruihuan, and Liu Huaqing visiting the institution to watch performances.
On May 18, 2001, Kunqu Opera was officially designated as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, and its cultural value was internationally recognized.
Before the performance, the troupe toured the campus, including Shuo. After the performance, a student representative presented them with bouquets of flowers and commemorative gifts as a token of appreciation.
