研究テーマ | Learning beyond the classroom, psychology in language learning, English language education in East and Southeast Asia |
研究内容 | My research has centered on English education in Southeast Asia and learning beyond the classroom, two broad areas which have sometimes overlapped. Regarding the former, this 2015 paper, “English language education in Cambodia and international support ahead of ASEAN integration,” written with Mony Som, examines the impact of ASEAN on teachers, and on language education more broadly, in Cambodia. Regarding my other general research area, in 2023, along with Hayo Reinders, I published this article, “Agency and affordances in study abroad,” which examines the out-of-class learning and psychology of Japanese English language learners during short-term study abroad programs. Also of note, in 2016, I wrote this paper, “Implementing a language learning advising service at a self-access center in Cambodia,” which involves both of my core research areas. |
研究・教育方針 | Very broadly speaking, I am interested in the intersection of research and language education. By this I mean research that has some practical aim from which learners and educators can readily experience benefits. I appreciate the value of various research methodologies, but I am more drawn to qualitative ones. |
主な経歴・職歴・学歴 | He has been in the field of foreign language since 2000. Currently, he works as a coordinator in the World Language Center where he supports the ongoing development of the WLC Self-Access Center and creates courses in the WLC. He is an Associate Professor. |
