New Year’s Greetings from Board of Trustees Chair Tashiro

I wish you all a happy, healthy New Year.

Soka University launched its Grand Design Initiative in 2010 to commemorate its Golden Anniversary in 2020 and meet the expectations of school founder Daisaku Ikeda regarding the loftiest ideals of higher education. And true to our founding principles that aim to fostering creative and contributive individuals, we dedicated the Faculty of Nursing in 2013, Faculty of International Liberal Arts in 2014 and Faculty of Science and Engineering in 2015. As a result, Soka now offers eight undergraduate faculties, four graduate schools and two specialized teachers schools.

Allow me to take this opportunity to offer my heartfelt gratitude to the all the donors who took part in our fund-raising campaign commemorating the 45th anniversary of Soka University and 30th anniversary of Soka Women’s College. Our campaign for 2016 will enable us to construct three new on-campus dormitories, including a facility to house students from around the world, reflecting both Soka’s ongoing commitment to become a truly globalized seat of higher learning and the government’s designation of our school under its Top Global University Project.

Soka University and Soka Women’s College will also be expanding our scholarship program beyond the 1,500 beneficiaries we have traditionally supported in years past. In addition, we have been operating a shuttle bus program for students commuting from metropolitan Tokyo to our Hachioji campus, as well as providing healthy, low-cost breakfasts since 2014.

Once again, we are working to improve and enhance the quality of education and of life, a task we could not engage without the generous support of alumni and boosters around the world. Allow me therefore to reiterate my profound appreciation to all of you for your precious donations.

Soka University and Soka Women’s College will always remain committed to our founding mandate to place the needs of students first, striving to create the optimal learning environment as we forge on toward our Golden Anniversary.

In closing, I pray for your continued good health and happiness.
