The Awarding Ceremony of Scholarships from the Makiguchi Foundation for Education for International Students took place on October 25 (Wednesday), at Global Square.
　The scholarship, which was founded with the support of the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation, assists in the acceptance of international students that are facing financial hardships, or students of excellence, and was conferred this time upon 104 international students that are enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs as well as the Preparatory Japanese Language Program.

　At the conferral ceremony, after greetings from International Director Masaru Osanai, graduate student Ms. Wong Mui Kee Carol shared her determination as a representative and expressed her appreciation to Soka University and the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation, who are supporting her financially through this scholarship. She also shared her determination to exert herself in her studies and do her best to compose a fine dissertation toward next year’s graduation so that her research can contribute to Singapore.
　This was followed by words from Executive Director Kumao Fukase of the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation, who expressed his expectations to the international students, encouraging them by saying that they are all important individuals that are engaged in a great mission to contribute to the “peace of humanity and the world” through their studies and research at Soka University, and that the scholarship is imbued with the spirit to support them.
　Lastly, Board of Trustees Chair Yasunori Tashiro handed the scholarship certificate to a student representative and shared that the bronze statue in front of the A Building holds the words, “For what purpose should one cultivate wisdom? May you always ask yourselves this question!” He encouraged them to not forget the purpose of learning and to study at Soka University not just for their own happiness but for the happiness of humanity.
