A staff member of the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, was welcomed as an intern

As part of the staff training of the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, Mr. Marco Roberto Delgado Cortés worked as an intern at Soka University International Affairs Office from November 3rd (Fri) to 10th (Fri).

Since the signing of the international academic exchange agreement in 1990, Soka University and the University of Guanajuato have conducted numerous student exchanges and joint research. Both universities have maintained a positive relationship as epitomized by the holding of a ceremony at the University of Guanajuato in 2015 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the signing. The University of Guanajuato provides job training programs that enable its staff members to have work experience at universities outside of Mexico. Mr. Delgado Cortés, a staff member of the Office of International Relations and Academic Collaboration, applied to intern at Soka University to learn the Japanese culture and higher education in Japan as well as international student support services.

During the internship, Mr. Delgado Cortés met with Japanese students who had studied abroad at the University of Guanajuato and experienced a variety of tasks including support for Spanish classes and consultation work. He commented, “I am the first staff member to intern at a university in Japan or in Asia because the majority of internship programs offered at the University of Guanajuato are conducted in North America. By working with the staff of the International Affairs Office at Soka University, I was able to learn how to provide support and services to international students who have diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds in innovative ways. When I go back to my country, I want to share what I have experienced with my fellow colleagues.”
