Exchange Agreement Concluded Between Soka University and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

On February 6 (Tuesday), an exchange agreement was concluded between Soka University and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). FAO Director Mbuli Charles Boliko of the Liaison Office in Japan visited Soka University and was welcomed by President Yoshihisa Baba and others.

The FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that engages in the development of the world’s agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, as well as rural development. It was established in 1945 with the purpose of gathering information and providing technology to secure sufficient food resources for the people of the world. The current headquarters is located in Rome, Italy, with 196 participating nations (including two affiliated nations).

This agreement aims to realize stable peace and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to this end, it aims to provide students with opportunities to learn about “food security” as a crucial area of study, through lectures and learning materials. Soka University also plans to engage in contribution activities to disseminate the SDGs.
Upon the conclusion of the agreement, Director Boliko shared his hopes that, with the agreement as a starting point, the younger generation can come to realize that the various challenges in the world, including food problems, are immediate issues. President Baba shared his hopes as a university to be able to help students deepen their understanding of the SDGs
