Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar of the Faculty of Business Administration Wins Outstanding Award at the 2018 AED Achievement Awards

On November 15 (Thursday), the 2018 AED Achievement Awards, sponsored by the Japan AED Foundation, took place at the World Trade Center Building where Team CUE of the Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar of Soka University’s Faculty of Business Administration won the Outstanding Award (second place) with their project, titled “Development of Card Games that Help People Learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.”

This award was established in 2017 with the aim to widely share/disseminate model projects involved in saving lives using AED by individuals and groups in the fields of “School”, “Sports”, and “Social Movements” so as to reduce the numbers of sudden cardiac deaths.

Team CUE developed card game-based learning materials through which children (six years and older) can learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation while at play. The team examined the usability of the game at an after-school childcare in Hachioji City and at a boys’ sports club and confirmed that the games are sufficiently effective. Currently, preparations are being made to share/disseminate the card games, and their projects received high appraisal.

The judges collectively made the following statement: “As the ability to memorize things deteriorates as we become adults, we think that it is a very good viewpoint to focus on children. We think it is wonderful that, by using card games as a learning material, children can gain practical knowledge while enjoying repeated learning, and how the team confirmed the effects was splendid.”

Team leader Ms. Momono Saito (junior, Faculty of Business Administration) shared: “I am happy to receive such an award. I want to share the usability of card game learning materials so that many people can gain the ability to protect the people they love.”
