Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar of the Faculty of Business Administration Receives the Most Outstanding Award at the 58th Japan Student Economic Seminar Kanto Tournament (Inner Tournament)

On November 18 (Sunday), the main competition of the 58th Japan Student Economic Seminar Kanto Tournament (inner tournament) (Sponsored by the Japan Student Economic Seminar Kanto Tournament, in cooperation with Nikkei Business Publications), which is the biggest student presentation gathering in the Kanto area, took place at Chuo University, Hachioji Campus. In the presentation category, Team CUE of the Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar of Soka University’s Faculty of Business Administration, consisting of Ms. Momono Saito, Mr. Kenichi Toriumi, Mr. Taishi Okazaki, Ms. Hidemi Ogawa, Mr. Taiga Nakamura, Ms. Kanako Fujimori, and Ms. Rikako Miyazaki, won the Most Outstanding Award (first place). This was the second consecutive honor for Soka University after the Akio Nishiura Seminar of the Faculty of Economics last year.

In total, 144 teams from 26 universities participated in this presentation category. The final selection took place from among the 12 teams that remained. From Soka University, the two teams of Yasuda Seminar (Team CUE, Team owl) and one team from Nishiura Seminar of the Faculty of Economics (Clarus) participated in the final selection. Each team had 15 minutes to present, followed by 10 minutes of questions and answers.

Yasuda Seminar’s Team CUE, which won the Most Outstanding Award, took up the low execution rate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Tokyo compared to various cities of the world as an issue and conducted surveys and research. The team focused on how nations and cities with high execution rates emphasize early education, making efforts to inspire awareness on a long-term basis and disseminating knowledge. With this, the team developed card game-based learning materials through which children can learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation while at play, and the team presented their project aiming to sell and disseminate the materials.

The judges collectively made the following statement: “We think it’s wonderful that the team took up a social issue and attempted to confront and solve it head-on. This was a great presentation via which we could feel the team’s passion.”

Ms. Momono Saito, who served as a team leader (junior, Faculty of Business Administration) shared: “At times, we have different opinions, but all members of the team simply pushed forward toward the goal of this project. I am happy that we could repay our debt of gratitude to everyone who supported us with the result of this Most Outstanding Award. I will continue to carry out activities to help solve social issues.”
