Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar of the Faculty of Business Administration Wins the Most Outstanding Award at the "10th Competition of the Consortium of Universities in Hachioji"

The "10th Competition of the Consortium of Universities in Hachioji" (sponsored by the Consortium of Universities in Hachioji, supported by the Hachioji City Board of Education) took place on December 8 (Saturday) and 9 (Sunday), at the Hachioji College of Community Center. In this presentation event, students from 25 universities that belong to the Consortium of Universities share their research results and present their ideas. The aim of this event is to foster academic-industrial collaboration and to revitalize local communities.

At the “Students’ Direct Proposal to the Hachioji City Mayor! – Final Selection,” (which serves as a forum to propose ideas directly to the Hachioji City mayor), held on December 9, eight organizations from four universities that were selected from 30 organizations in eight universities gave their presentations. Four organizations from Soka University participated in the final selection in which: Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar of the Faculty of Business Administration won the Most Outstanding Award, Akio Nishiura Seminar of the Faculty of Economics and Minoru Koide Seminar of the Faculty of International Education won the Outstanding Award, and Noboru Mizumoto Seminar of the Department of Global Business Studies of Soka Women’s College won the Special Award.

Team Cue of Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar, which won the Most Outstanding Award, gave a presentation under the title, “First Aid Project – Toward a Hachioji City That Can Protect the People You Cherish at Crucial Moments via Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.” The team focused on the issue that the ratio of knowledge regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Tokyo/Hachioji City compared to various cities around the world is low. Through surveys and research, their presentation focused on how countries and cities where the ratio of knowledge regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation is high place emphasis on education since childhood, making efforts to promote awareness with a long-term perspective and disseminating knowledge. With this as a backdrop, Yoshinori Yasuda Seminar developed a card game with which children can enjoy learning about cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods and proposed that this be introduced at public elementary schools in Hachioji City as a supplementary study material.

The judges commented, “It is very interesting that you focused on elementary school students instead of junior and senior high schools. It is also wonderful how you are already engaged in promoting your materials.”

The team leader, Ms. Momono Saito (junior, Faculty of Business Administration), shared, “We had the strong wish to disseminate education on cardiopulmonary resuscitation at public elementary schools, so I was happy to be able to directly make the proposal to the mayor. I will continue to forge ahead for the promotion of this project, with my sense of appreciation to all those who supported us as my driving force.”
