Soka University Student from the Graduate School of Engineering Wins Outstanding Presentation Award (Promotion Category) at the 17th Wood Carbonization Research Society

At the 17th Wood Carbonization Research Society’s research presentation meeting held at the University of Tokyo (June 7 to 8), Mr. Masatoshi Himeno of Soka University, majoring in the master’s program at the Graduate School of Engineering, Environmental Engineering for Symbiosis, won the Outstanding Presentation Award (“Promotion” category).

The society promotes research & development pertaining to the carbonization of biomass resources such as ligneous resources with the goal of the effective usage of such resources.

Mr. Himeno gave a presentation, sharing information under the title, “Dissolution evaluation of nutrient salt from biochar with organic fertilizer as raw material,” and posited that using biochar obtained by carbonizing organic fertilizers in soil proved effective in dissolving fertilizer nutrients (especially phosphate and potassium components) within the soil.
Mr. Himeno shared: “I am deeply appreciative to have received such an award. I feel that this result came from the support I received from my supervisor, Professor Shinjiro Sato, and my friends at the Laboratory of Soil Environmental Science. Using this experience as a source of encouragement, I will further exert myself in my research activities.”
