A Commentary From a Sophomore of Soka University Faculty of Education was Published in the Shukan Dokushojin (Weekly Book Readers)

A commentary from Mr. Hirokazu Abe, a sophomore of Soka University’s Department of Education, Faculty of Education, on “Bentham: A Guide for the Perplexed” (by Philip Schofield) was published in “Commentaries on Books Recommended by University Students on Campus” of the August 9th issue of the Shukan Dokushojin (Weekly Book Readers), a publication that specializes in commentaries.

Shukan Dokushojin is an official newspaper established in 1958 by Japan Book Publishers Association, which carries as many as 700 commentaries each year. In the section “Commentaries on Books Recommended by University Students on Campus,” current university students write commentaries on books that they select and are introduced in the Shukan Dokushojin as well as on the Shukan Dokushojin website.

Mr. Abe, whose commentary was introduced this time, posted: “I make daily efforts to read books in as many fields as possible. I feel that reading books is an outstanding tool that enriches people’s hearts and I want to read at least one book a week. However, in reality, I am very busy with my everyday life and cannot secure sufficient time to read. At such times, I try to choose books or novels that I am interested in or books that are a little thinner and easier to read. I place focus on creating the habit of reading. Also, by writing out my comments on the books that I have read, I can elevate what I have learned from within myself, so I am challenging myself to write my comments while establishing the habit to read.”
