A paper by our university's Faculty of Education Lecturer, Masahide Tsuda, has won the Outstanding Paper Award from the Japan Society of Mathematics Education.
A paper written by Tsuda Masahide, Lecturer in Faculty of Education at our university, entitled "A survey and analysis of the perception of 'instantaneous speed' in upper grades of elementary school - focusing on the relationship between misperception of speed and understanding of formulas" won the Outstanding Paper Award (Baba Encouragement Award) and was published in the Journal of the Japan Society of Mathematics Education. This paper focuses on "speed," which has long been identified as a difficulty for students to understand in elementary school mathematics, and attempts to identify the causes through a survey of perception, summarizing the results of specific improvements to instruction.
Upon hearing the publication, Lecturer Tsuda said, "This is my second time receiving this award overall. However, it is the first time I have received this award for a single author, and the work is related to the research I am currently doing in the doctoral program. I will continue to work hard on my research with the aim of obtaining my degree."
