Message to students

Hi everyone, this is Anar Koli. I am from Bangladesh. Before joining Soka University, I used to teach at University of Tsukuba, Japan. My current research includes a collaborative research on ‘Global environmental policy network (GEPON) in Japan’ and some other research projects such as ‘Environmental policy network in Bangladesh’, ‘The possibility of win-win outcomes of forest conservation and human well-being in Bangladesh: an exploration of poverty-conservation linkage in the context of climate change’.
As a professor of international relations, and environmental politics, I believe that my most import job is to ignite the curiosity and critical thinking of the students about the real world problems. In each of my classes, I thus, emphasize the real world application of the concepts and issue and help the students to communicate their ideas effectively. I basically help my students to learn how to communicate ideas and arguments logically and convincingly.
I believe, the Faculty of Liberal Arts is a unique opportunity for students to learn in a vibrant academic environment together with a culturally diverse international setting. I hope, you will enjoy your study and develop yourself as a future leader. You are most welcome to Soka University, Japan.

The main career

Ph.D. in International Political Economy, University of Tsukuba, Japan, 2011
M.A. in International Political Economy, University of Tsukuba, Japan, 2006
M. Sc in Botany, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, 1995
B.Sc in Botany, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, 1994

I earned my graduation both form the political science and natural science schools. Before studying in international political economy, I studied environmental issue from a natural science perspective. After completing my education at the University of Dhaka when I started to work in one of the UNICEF projects in Bangladesh, I felt the urgency of interdisciplinary academic knowledge to work on the environment. I decided to pursue my higher studies in international political economy with a specific focus on environmental field.
After completing my PhD in international political economy in 2011, I started to work as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Tsukuba in the project of “A Comparative and Empirical Study of the Structural Changes in Politics and Transformations in Pressure Groups, Policy Networks, and Civil Society in Japan”. I am continuing my collaborative research on Global Environmental Policy Network (GEPON) in Japan and Global Climate Change with the research team at the University of Tsukuba. In 2012 at the same university, I joined as an assistant professor of international relations and global environmental politics at the school of international social studies, department of international public policy. My teaching experience includes international relation related several courses such as international political economy, international social studies, international society, global environmental politics. Besides the above courses, I also used to teach readings of Japanese studies, contemporary world politics (environment), academic discussion seminar, and seminar on writing and research in political sciences.
