I'm not good at English, but I love speaking English, so I found out about the Chit Chat Club in the summer of my first year and started trying it out. At first, I was embarrassed about my poor English skills and worried about whether I could speak well, so I invited a friend to join. However, all the staff were kind and the sessions were held in a very fun atmosphere. When I didn't understand an English expression or word, I asked, "How do you say in English?" and they explained it to me in an easy-to-understand way and corrected my grammar. In addition, the topics that get the conversation going and fun games are also part of the appeal of the Chit Chat Club. I would like to use it a lot in the future.

I am very grateful to Chit Chat Club (C3). Not only have I improved my English skills, but I have also built strong, lifelong bonds with the C3 staff! I took C3 more than 50 times in just one semester, achieved a TOEIC score of over 730, and received the Schliemann Prize! I am convinced that I can do anything, no matter what the circumstances, even during the COVID-19 pandemic! I will do my best to become the global citizen the founder wants me to be!
If we put our mind to it, we can accomplish anything! Anything is possible.

User testimonials
After entering Soka University, I was surprised by the number of international students. At the beginning of my second year, I heard about WLC's Chit Chat Club and English Forum from a senior student, and as I had always dreamed of speaking English fluently, I continued to attend every day in my free time. Until then, I hated English, but I realized that I could really use it and that speaking English was fun. Now, although my English is still poor, I have improved to the point where I can speak it in everyday conversation. I was also able to make many international student friends, which increased my motivation. WLC is a wonderful service that broadens your horizons by actually speaking English.

I started using the Writing Development Desk once a week from the spring semester of my second year to improve my writing skills. At first, even though I could write, the content was thin and I made many grammatical mistakes. However, by attending the Writing Development Desk every time, the content and grammatical mistakes decreased, and I reached a level where I could write with confidence. Also, by attending the same staff every time, I not only became friendly with the staff, but we were able to build a relationship where they were happy with my writing improvement. Finally, I wholeheartedly recommend making use of the Writing Development Desk, not only because it helps you improve your writing skills, but also because it is an environment where you can become friendly with the staff!

When I first enrolled, I had a strong desire to improve my English skills, but I didn't know how to study, so I used the English Study Consultation Corner. The advantage of the English Study Consultation Corner is that the staff will listen carefully to your concerns, give you advice based on your purpose, and help you set goals together. By setting goals for the semester and long vacations, I was able to maintain my motivation to work hard in class and study the language. If you feel that you are not good at English, don't know how to study, or have any other concerns about English, I recommend you join a session.

During the summer of my second year, I was not confident in my ability to construct logical sentences in English and in my listening skills, so I attended the Speaking Center four days a week in the fall semester. It was hard to balance my classes with my part-time job, but thanks to the enthusiastic guidance of the staff, who taught me 25 minutes per session, my TOEFL-IBT Speaking score went up!
I also had the opportunity to meet staff at the university, which gave me more opportunities to speak English on a daily basis and enabled me to expand my network.
From now on, I would like to actively express my opinions in class and demonstrate the English skills I have developed at the Speaking Center!

Global Village is a program that allows you to open up infinite possibilities!
I wanted to be able to speak Korean, so I went there every week for five years.
As a result, I was able to improve my language skills from the level of being able to simply greet people before I left to a level where I could easily participate in class discussions and life at my host university, and it also helped me practice output after returning home.
During the sessions, you can learn about the language and even the culture and customs.
I am very grateful to the international student staff who made every effort to teach me in a way that made it fun and enjoyable to learn every time.
I will continue to use the language skills I have acquired at Global Village to make my dreams come true!

At Global Village, I was able to learn Chinese in a fun way every time through conversations, games, and events prepared by the staff. I was originally planning to go to China as an exchange student, but was unable to travel due to the effects of COVID-19. In that situation, Global Village was a valuable opportunity to practice speaking Chinese at Soka University. I feel that my language skills have improved little by little by being exposed to a lot of Chinese during the sessions and speaking it myself. I will treasure what I have learned at Global Village and continue to work hard at studying Chinese!

Hello, my name is Jun from Soka University Bekka 46th. Due to the effects of COVID-19, Bekka 46th could not go to Japan until the end of the Bekka. Furthermore, there were many situations where it was not decided when we would be able to enter the country. There were times when I was tired of only having online classes every day. At that time, a teacher from Bekka recommended that I join the Japanese Dojo. Since I had few opportunities to speak with Japanese people, I decided to join the Japanese Dojo. After taking classes from the professor while talking with Japanese seniors in the Japanese Dojo sessions, I was able to learn many things that I had not been able to learn before. For example, I was able to learn the way Japanese people usually talk with friends and the culture of young people in Japan. Above all, the seniors were very kind and I am always grateful to them.

Campus English Exam
Soka University offers students the opportunity to take the TOEIC®L&R IP and TOEFL ITP® exams in groups on campus so that they can measure their own English ability.
Please take advantage of group exams to measure your English language achievement, and to prepare for future career advancement, such as studying abroad, going on to graduate school, or job hunting.

*Scores obtained through the online method will not be given credit.
*You may be required to submit an Official Score Certificate for civil service exams, graduate school entrance exams, and some companies.
When applying for employment or further education, check the terms and conditions of the other party and, if necessary, take a public test in addition to the on-campus IP test.

Participant Experience
Yui Uhara (48th batch, Faculty of Economics)
My first overseas experience
This was my first experience abroad, but the local environment was so favorable that all the anxiety I had before leaving disappeared, and I was moved from the very beginning by the warmth of the people, especially the students of the University of the East. I remember feeling very relieved when I saw them welcoming us everywhere.
On campus, I had a lot of time to talk freely with local students, so I made many friends. There were days when I felt frustrated because, while the other person talked a lot during conversations, I couldn't express what I wanted to say in English as I wanted. However, as the days went by, I was really happy when I started to speak English more fluently than before, and conversations in English felt dozens of times more enjoyable.
There is nothing more uninteresting than worrying about grammar and not speaking for fear of making mistakes. I strongly believe that the value of this training will change depending on how much you can take on challenges in various situations. In fact, I am still able to communicate with the local friends I made at that time through social media.

Inspired by the enthusiasm of local junior high school students
During the training, each group had the opportunity to visit local markets and kindergartens.
So my group went to a junior high school and participated in a class. I still remember the scene there vividly.
When I first entered the classroom, the children all rushed to give me their seats and handed me papers I needed for class, torn from their notebooks. I was deeply moved by their sincerity. Even if people have kind hearts, sometimes they don't have the courage and end up keeping it in their hearts. However, no matter how warm your heart is, it's meaningless if you don't express it, and I felt like I was reminded of the most important thing about being a person.
In class, when the teacher asked a question, everyone raised their hands as if to say, "Let me answer," and I had never seen a classroom as full of energy as that. I felt a strong desire to emulate these students, and now I attend classes with a different attitude than before.

Training that will benefit you for life
During these 10 days, I was able to gain many things in various situations every day. I once again realized the importance of broadening my horizons as my way of thinking changed due to small things.
I think I gained more from this training than I expected. It was a passion for learning English, and the deep bonds I was able to build with my classmates who also went to the same training. Even now, when I think about how everyone is working hard both inside and outside the school, it makes me want to work hard too, and I feel like I am working hard every day. I am truly glad that I went.
If you are thinking of taking a step forward or want to go abroad, I would like to encourage anyone to visit the Philippines! I strongly hope that it will be a source of nourishment for your future life!
