Bridging Research and SDGs: Chen Tao’s Success at the FALIA Global Competition
A Soka University of Japan (SUJ) student from Guangzhou, Chen Tao, participated in the FALIA Essay Competition in 2025 that pits writing skills in a highly competitive essay competition organized by the Foundation for the Advancement of Life & Insurance Around the World (FALIA).
An objective is to create awareness of life insurance matters. Out of the highly competitive 77 essay from 30 countries, 12 were chosen as winners of the prestigious competition.
The award ceremony was attended by industry stakeholders with important entities like Dai-ichi Life. Chen received the Effort award, setting an achievement for the University, IBSP program as well as the Graduate School. The title of the essay was "Female Labor Force Participation and Life Insurance Market Depth: Cross-Country Evidence and Institutional Channels", a topic fully aligned with the university's active participation in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) issues at the United Nations (UN) level. Of which, gender is a very important issue.
The tracking of Gender progress and tackling issues like harassment has brought out SDG related issues of equity, gender diversity at the workplace, inclusivity of the important contributions of women and ethical behaviour at the workplace along with corporate social responsibility (CSR).
