Cameroon, Class of 2021

Etoijeck Clovis Njiewie

Current Role: Supervisor, Systems Administration at DSV Contract Logistics

As the Supervisor of Systems Administration at DSV Contract Logistics, I am primarily responsible for overseeing the operational health and integrity of our critical IT infrastructure.

My core responsibilities involve leading a dedicated team of systems operators and analysts to ensure our environment remains secure, efficient, and highly reliable. This encompasses a broad range of activities, from coordinating major system upgrades and patching cycles to implementing proactive performance monitoring and incident management protocols. My objective is to preemptively resolve issues, minimizing business disruption and maximizing system uptime.

Why did you choose to study in the IBSP program at Soka University?

I was drawn to Soka University's IBSP because it uniquely aligned with my career ambition to develop a global mindset anchored in social responsibility.

The program's structure an intentional blend of interdisciplinary learning, cross-cultural communication, and a sharp focus on sustainability provided the comprehensive preparation necessary to operate effectively and confidently across international borders.

A defining moment was the capstone cross-cultural business project, guided by Prof. Konomi Saito. Our team was tasked with designing a sustainable business model for a real Japanese company, culminating in a critical company visit. Applying complex strategy frameworks with teammates from diverse cultural backgrounds was transformative. It necessitated active listening, adaptive communication, and collaborative problem-solving under pressure. That experience marked a fundamental shift, reframing my identity from that of a student to a prepared global professional.

How has your experience at IBSP benefited you in your current career?

The impact of the IBSP program is evident in my current role as Supervisor of Systems Administration. The program's multicultural and collaborative learning environment was instrumental in strengthening my adaptability and interpersonal communication skills. This is critical today, as my work requires constant coordination with international teams and diverse stakeholders across different regional DSV operations.

Furthermore, IBSP's emphasis on rigorous, project-based coursework significantly sharpened my ability to conduct in-depth analysis and make decisive, high-stakes decisions under significant time pressure.

When my team evaluates a major system change or determines the scope of a new security measure, I draw directly upon IBSP's unique mix of business theory and practical application. This allows me to effectively balance competing priorities such as risk management, implementation speed, and diverse stakeholder needs to ensure that our IT infrastructure decisions support the global demands of our logistics business.

What advice would you give to prospective students who are considering joining IBSP?

To prospective students who are considering IBSP, my advice is clear and twofold: come prepared to embrace an open mindset and actively seek opportunities that push you outside of your comfort zone.

IBSPs distinctive value lies in its immersive environment. I strongly recommend students to collaborate widely, engaging deeply with the diverse perspectives of your classmates, and to fully immerse yourselves in Japanese culture and Soka University’s mission.

The intensity of your participation directly correlates with the results. The more proactively you engage with the curriculum and the cross-cultural opportunities provided, the more profoundly IBSP will transform your professional skill set and your global outlook, preparing you for a truly international and impactful career.
