Doctoral Program in English Language Education Pedagogy: Doctoral Research Plan Presentation
Presentation of proposed doctoral research / research plan
During the early portion of their program (during their first or second year), doctoral students in the Specialized Studies in English Pedagogy: Applied Linguistics and Language Education (English medium track) will be expected to:
1. Devise research questions that will lead to doctoral research that adds to the body of knowledge in their field of study;
2. Identify an appropriate theoretical framework(s) on which to base their doctoral research; and,
3. Develop a corresponding research methodology, including data collection and analysis procedures, and relevant instrumentation.
Once reaching this stage, doctoral students in the English medium track will present this information, along with any relevant, preliminary studies completed, at a public presentation of their proposed doctoral research plan. Faculty members from the Graduate School of Letters with expertise in the research area(s) will be invited to attend (along with other interested faculty members and students). The purpose of this presentation of the proposed doctoral research / research plan is for the doctoral student to receive feedback from faculty members in their field and to fine tune their research plan before proceeding. This presentation of the research plan is not required, but strongly recommended to strengthen the research to be undertaken. This presentation will be organized and scheduled by the doctoral program advisor for each doctoral student.
