Professor Donna M. Brinton currently works as an Educational Consultant in the field of TESOL/Applied Linguistics. From 2009-2012, she was employed as Senior Lecturer in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, where she designed and taught online classes in their M.A. program. She also worked as a Professor of TESOL in the M.A. program at Soka University of America from 2007 to 2009. Prior to holding these positions, she worked for 27 years at the University of California, Los Angeles in a variety of positions, including Associate Director of UCLA’s World Languages and Cultures, Lecturer in Applied Linguistics, and Academic Coordinator of the UCLA ESL Service Courses. In all of the above capacities, she has taught a wide spectrum of Applied Linguistics and English as a second language classes. Her fields of interest and expertise are materials/curriculum development, program evaluation, general TESOL methodology, teaching pronunciation, content-based instruction, English for Specific Purposes, and the use of instructional technology in language teaching.

Professor Brinton is the co-author and co-editor of numerous professional texts including Content-Based Second Language Instruction (Heinle & Heinle, 1989; University of Michigan Press, 2003), The Content-Based Classroom (Addison Wesley Longman, 1997; University of Michigan Press, 2017), Teaching Pronunciation (Cambridge University Press, 1996; 2010), New Ways in Content-Based Instruction (TESOL Press, 1997), New Ways in ESP (TESOL Press, 1998), Heritage Language Education: A New Field Emerging (Routledge, Taylor, & Francis, 2007), The Linguistic Structure of Modern English (John Benjamins, 2010), and Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (Cengage / National Geographic Learning, 2014). She is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences. She has also co-authored numerous scholarly articles and chapters in edited volumes, several English language textbooks, and online content-based lessons for EFL learners (http://exchanges.state.gov/forum/journal). For twelve years she also co-edited The CATESOL Journal and recently guest-edited an issue of the journal on evidence-based pronunciation (with John Levis and Ana Wu). Together with Marguerite Ann Snow, she is currently working on an e-book version of The Content-Based Classroom (University of Michigan Press, forthcoming).

As an educational consultant, Professor Brinton works as an international teacher educator. Primarily, this work has entailed assignments as an English Language Specialist for U.S. Department of State or as a short-term instructor at international universities. Her work has encompassed a wide variety of responsibilities, including: teaching short courses on topics such as teaching pronunciation, general TESOL methodology, and content-based instruction; serving as a plenary speaker and presenter at international teacher conferences, conducting program evaluations, and spearheading curriculum/materials design projects. She has worked in China, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Greece, Turkey, Israel, India, Nepal, the U.A.E., Qatar, Bahrain, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Senegal, Mali, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Armenia, Syria, Lebanon, the Dominican Republic, and Curaçao.

Professor Brinton is a native of California and lives in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles.
