Student Voices: Akem
My experience in the ILE: TESOL Program was both rigorous and rewarding. Although the program was challenging, the ILE: TESOL Program prepared me to become an educator, a leader of change, a confident speaker, and a researcher. The mentorship and guidance from our dedicated faculty were key to my success. Today, as a Ph.D. student focusing on Educational Leadership in the United States, I often receive compliments from my professors, recognizing that I was trained by the best. The ILE: TESOL Program brought out a new side of me that I never thought existed, thanks to the diversity of my cohort and the rich, varied readings. Our program took me from a place of no voice to becoming a voice for the voiceless. Now, as a role model in my community, I focus my research on Educational and Technology Access, Social Justice and Equity, and Multilingual Education. My future goal is to become a faculty member and continue inspiring change.
