My experience at the Soka University ILE: TESOL Program was one of the most transformative and enriching experiences of my academic and professional journey. I had the privilege of learning from highly esteemed professors who are well-regarded experts in the field of English language education in Japan. The rigorous coursework challenged me intellectually, strengthening my academic skills while equipping me with the theoretical and research-based foundations necessary for effective ESL instruction. Beyond the academic experience, I formed lasting relationships with peers who share my passion for language education, fostering a professional network that continues to support my growth. This program prepared me to enter the field as an ESL educator with confidence, a wealth of resources, and a strong pedagogical foundation. I am currently a high school educator in a small urban district in the northeastern United States where I teach multilingual learners in grades 10–12. My primary role is teaching English Language Arts with embedded ESL support for students at WIDA levels 1 and 2. In addition to my instructional responsibilities, I am in the final stages of completing my second master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Upon fulfilling my degree requirements, I will obtain my principal licensure, further expanding my capacity to contribute to school leadership and student success. In the immediate future, I plan to continue teaching ESL at the high school level while obtaining my principal license and securing a leadership role as a school administrator. Additionally, I intend to begin my doctoral studies in Educational Leadership in the fall. My long-term professional aspiration is to advocate for multilingual learners at the district, state, or policy level, whether through an administrative role in my district’s central office, within my state’s department of education, or through a leadership position in an educational organization or teachers’ union. There is a critical need for systemic improvements to better support multilingual learners and students from disadvantaged backgrounds. My experiences as an ESL educator, my training at the Soka University ILE: TESOL Program, and my ongoing pursuit of advanced education will enable me to contribute meaningfully to this mission.
