Student Voices: Nausheen

I earned my TESOL master’s degree from Soka University between 2017 and 2019. Coming from India with limited experience in language education and no research background, I entered the program with curiosity and apprehension. However, several aspects made the experience both engaging and transformative. Classroom discussions, cross-cultural interactions, and the exploration of linguistic diversity worldwide were particularly enriching. The program not only encouraged students to share their perspectives on sociolinguistics but also created an environment that inspired deeper reflection on teaching philosophies, research interests, and intercultural sensitivity. This intellectually stimulating atmosphere played a key role in shaping my academic and professional trajectory. The consistent support from faculty and classmates further motivated me throughout the program. Currently, I am an ELI lecturer at a well-regarded university and an independent researcher focusing on refugee education and marginalized communities. My future goal is to pursue a PhD and contribute to academia while actively working toward social change through education.
