Student Voices: Larry

After retiring from an extensive IT career, I discovered the ILE: TESOL Program via one of the previous graduates. I was not sure if I could ‘level up’ to a master's degree in teaching English.  Although I am a senior, I pursued the application process and eventually was accepted to my surprise. I was joined by my junior international cohorts and was able to enjoy the friendly camaraderie among the students as we were challenged by excellent faculty and advisors. I chose to complete a Teaching Learning Project (TLP) and produced a 15-week set of lesson plans for teaching English to Japanese Seniors.   I relearned the essentials of English and expanded my knowledge of pedagogical methods with excellent practicum courses by the ILE: TESOL Program faculty. After graduation, I was able to put my TLP into practice successfully. I have now migrated to further graduate level research in the IT field. The ILE: TESOL Program and all the faculty were instrumental for this late bloomer to rise to new levels while providing me confidence and expertise.
