Student Voices: Yeap Wei

Studying abroad always seemed like a distant dream, but thanks to the Japan Ministry of Education (MEXT) scholarships, I was able to earn my master’s degree in Japan. At Soka University, studying under professors mostly from English-speaking countries and working with coursemates from diverse cultures, while navigating life in Japan, created a unique study abroad experience. The professors were not only experienced but also down-to-earth and supportive, always willing to offer guidance on assignments, research, and even personal concerns. I was constantly moved and incredibly grateful for experiencing humanistic education firsthand. Additionally, I was selected for a two-week graduate study exchange program in Thailand, which broadened my perspective on how English education differs across countries. Every moment at Soka University, including the research opportunities and teaching practicum helped me grow academically and professionally. Now, after six years of teaching English in Japan, I remain deeply committed to the values of humanistic education!
