FILA Faculty Launches Book

    FILA Faculty Launches Book

Dr. Johanna Zulueta, Associate Professor at the Faculty of International Liberal Arts recently launched the book, Thinking Beyond the State: Migration, Integration, and Citizenship in Japan and the Philippines, on 20 April 2018 at the De La Salle University, in Manila, the Philippines. This is an edited collection of double-blind, peer-reviewed articles tackling pressing issues on Japan-Philippines migration. The book is published by the De La Salle University Publishing House. This book is Dr. Zulueta’s second edited book, following the publication of Japan: Migration and a Multicultural Society (edited with Lydia Yu Jose) in 2014 (Ateneo de Manila University Press).
The chapters in Thinking Beyond the State address the need to think beyond state-level discourses and analyses in problematizing human mobility between Japan and the Philippines, by looking at other meso-level and micro-level actors involved in these processes. The collection includes chapters investigating several issues that are part and parcel of the migration experience: citizenship, migrant integration and welfare, human security, migrant associations, identities, and multiculturalism. This book promises to be of interest to those who are involved in research on migration, especially in the East Asian region. It is the first volume to tackle migration issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.
The book is to be published internationally under the Asian Studies Series of Sussex Academic Press.
