【FILA】Guest speaker to the "Development Economics"!

On Tuesday, April 18th, Ms. Amanuma, Deputy Director of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), was invited as a guest speaker for Associate Professor Utsumi's course "Development Economics." The objective of this course is to learn about and understand various issues faced by developing countries from a microeconomic perspective, such as poverty, education, and labor, and to acquire related models and analytical tools.

During the lecture, Ms. Amanuma introduced case studies related to the SDGs and talked about "What is sustainable development?" and "What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?" The students engaged in a lively discussion with Ms. Amanuma.

A student who took this course expressed impressions as follows:

"I learned the importance of learning about the situations in other countries around the world and continuing to raise our voices so that no one is left behind and everyone can lead a better life. Before, I was not familiar with all the SDGs, but through data showing the correlation of the SDGs and the example of palm oil, I learned that all the issues are related to each other. Through this class, I have made up my mind to act for a better life in the future, being aware that my own actions have an impact somewhere in the world."
