On September 9th (Saturday), the "SDGs Youth Summit 2023," organized by the Japan Youth Platform for a Sustainable Society (JYPS) Secretariat and the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), was held online at the United Nations University. Haruko Shimonishi, a fourth-year student from the International College of Liberal Arts, participated in the event.

The summit aimed to discuss youth involvement in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and present recommendations and proposals in preparation for the "2023 SDG Summit" held at the UN headquarters in New York in September this year.

Miss. Shimonishi was selected as a student representative from a university affiliated with the United Nations University SDG University Collaboration Platform and spoke at the panel discussion of the second part of the summit, conducted in English. Under the theme "Youth Empowerment for the SDGs — UNU-IAS Stakeholder Dialogue," she expressed her opinions based on her studies and experiences abroad at the university.
